1248 G: 02:05:51:15 to 02:09:15:28: LS, man places poster announcing resuming of religious services on door of synagogue. CU. LS, reopening of synagogue: "Kottbuser Ufer Synagogue." One man, on a ladder, fixes the curtain on the altar. Two men bring flowers, another man fixes the lights, other men bring in the Torah. LS men bringing the Torah into the synagogue. LS, INT of Kottbuser Ufer Synagogue, while faithful put on Tallit. VSs, religious service, viewed from different angles. American soldier attends services. CUs, American GI talking with a German during the service. 1248 J: 02:09:18:06 to 02:12:27:11: MLS, road, large house/building visible in BG. In FG, children in winter coats running along the road. Three women walking behind them, holding the hands of smaller children. VS, through bare trees to open field, Army supply trucks are barely visible along a distant road. HASs of large crowd gathered in a town square damaged by bombings. Men and women, dressed in heavy winter coats, many women wearing fur stoles, collars, etc. People moving about. Some soldiers visible in crowd (unsure what army/country). Handwritten notes on NARA story cards suggest that these are scenes of a blackmarket (geographic location unknown). Cut to MS, police officer directing traffic. There is a road sign with the names of two towns on it, but the letters are not visible. CU of officer's boots. VS, MCUs among the crowds of people at the 'blackmarket', bargaining over goods. VS, CUs of soldiers taking pictures, smoking, talking, etc. MLS, two men in front of a statue of a man in uniform upon a pedestal. The statue is outdoors in a public space, a park bench is also visible.
