CU Ambassador at desk, talking on phone with Minister of Finance Marchandeau, reading Embassy document addressed to French Foreign Office, signing document, standing at bay window overlooking Place de la Concorde, talking with First Secretary and Acting Consul General Robert D. Murphy, dictating to stenographer. Ambassador receiving and talking with President of American Chamber of Commerce Roy Weeks. Ambassador receiving and conversing with former Premier and present Cabinet Minister Camille Chautemps. Ambassador leaves with Chautemps, getting into car. 665 Q: Using Camereclaire: US Embassy, Office of Ambassador's private secretary, Carmel Offie. Offie receiving Henry Daumat, Vice President of Commission for the Suppression of War Crimes. He proposes a plan to submit to Ambassador. Offie inscribes date in appointment book. Offie dictating to stenographer, telephoning. Offie receiving and conversing with Jacob Landau, of the Jewish International Telegraph Agency, who wishes to see the Ambassador about the Evian Conference regarding refugees. He is ushered into the Ambassador's office. CU Offie's telephone allowing her to listen in to Ambassador's phone. CU safe, Offie putting official document into the safe. 665 R: USS Embassy, Office of Counselor. Acting Counselor Barnes (in absence of E.C. Wilson) confers with Consul Hugh S. Fullerton and Mathews on an economic question. Office of Assistant Military Attache, Lt. Col. Sumner Waite. Commandant De Lastours at map points to Spain. Waite approaches from his desk and discusses situation. CU, map with hand pointing to Terruel and line of Insurgents advance.
