Scope and Content

Reception given by US ambassador George V. Allen at his summer home, Villa Podkoron in Bled, Slovenia. For the first time in recent years, Marshal Tito was able to attend the reception. Guests included leading members of the Yugoslav Government and the Diplomatic Corps, many came to Bled specifically for the occasion. After cocktails, dinner was served to the guests, who sat a small tables in the garden. Tito left at midnight. Roll 1: Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Eduard Kardelj (wearing glasses) and Mrs. Kardelj arrive at the gates of the villa and are received by Ambassador Allen in a white dinner jacket and the Chef de Protocol of the Foreign Office, Mr. Modolka. Marshal of Yugoslavia Joship Broz-Tito accompanied by his aide Maj Gen Gogelj arrive at the gates at 9 PM and are received by Ambassador Allen and Mr. Modolka. Tito takes off his glove and shakes hands with the Ambassador who escorts him to the party. Tito arrived in a black Packard limousine, preceded by another car. Several shots of Tito drinking cocktails, talking to Ambassador Allen, his wife, and two sons. Several shots from different angles of Kardelj's table, including the Deputy Foreign Minister and former Yugoslav delegate to the UN, Dr. Joseph Vilfan, at the head. To Vilfan's left is Ambassador Allen; to Allen's left is the Turkish Ambassador's wife, Madame Koprula; to Vilfan's right is the Chef de Protocol Dr. Sloven Smodlaka; next to him is Mr. Kardelj (with glasses); next to him is the British Ambassador's wife Lady Peake. Several shots with CUs of Marshal Tito's table. Tito sits at the head with Mrs. Allen to his left; on Tito's right is Mrs. Kardelj; next to her is the British Ambassador Sir Charles Peake; next to him is the Belgian Minister's wife Madame Delcoigne; next to Mrs. Allen on the other side is Deputy Foreign Minister, Dr Leo Nates; next to him the Dutch Minister Mr. Dozy; next to him the Belgian Minister. Roll 2: More shots at Tito's table with CUs. Mrs. Allen lights Tito's cigarette, Tito lights Mrs. Allen's cigarette. Several shots of Mrs. Vilfan's table: to her right is the Deputy Director of the Department of Information, Joseph Vidmar, with gray hair; President of the Federal Parliament; Vice President of Slovenia Dr. Brecelj and his wife. MS, tables with diplomats, the Canadian Military Attaché, the French Charge d'Affaires in the FG. At the table in the rear is the Swedish Minister and his wife; the Minister for Israel and Mrs. Ishai; the Finnish Minister and the wife of the Dutch Minister, Mrs. Dozy.
