Biographical History

Zavodianyi Volodymyr Dmytrovych started collecting historical materials on his own initiative in the late 70s of the 20th century. He continues to this day, but much less intensively. He provided original documents for graduates of the Kalynivske school to write student papers, who often did not return them, so he decided to transfer his own materials to the established Kalynivske Museum. The museum was looted by the Russian occupiers in 2022. Since the late 70s of the 20th century. V. D. Zavodianyi began collecting documents and memoirs of local residents about the history of the village of Kalynivske and surrounding settlements, the Kalinindorf National Jewish District.

Zavodianyi Volodymyr Dmytrovych, born in 1946, former director of the local school and initiator of the museum of the history of Kalynivske (Kalininske, Kalinindorf, Velyka Seidemenukha), Beryslav district, Kherson oblast. He participated in the work on the creation of the Book of Memory for the Kherson region, wrote in the newspaper "Zhayvir" (formerly "Builder of Communism"), on the Holocaust in the district, wrote a monograph "Kalininske - in Chronicles and Memoirs" (first edition 2004, the book was reprinted three times). Zavodianyi personally collected testimonies from local residents about the events of World War II and the Holocaust.

Acquisition

Materials were donated by local residents and representatives of the former local administration (decisions of the former Kalynivske village council, official documents of the local state collective farm).

Scope and Content

There is no description log, the collection needs to be analyzed and organized. Zavodianyi cannot quantify his collection, but mentioned 27 folders with documents of local organizations, an unknown number of typewritten documents and handwritten notes, photos, and letters from Israel from former residents of Kalynivske. He also provided for copying the memoirs of the head of the local military commissariat, Borys Lvovych Zeldin (Peklo), on 6 typewritten sheets regarding the events of World War II. Zavodianyi mentioned that he has letters from Lummar Volodymyr (Volka) Zusevych (Zakharovych), who talks about the probleblematics regarding the commemoration of Holocaust victims in the village of Kalynivske in the postwar period.

Appraisal

The collection is in disarray due to the Russian occupation of Kalynivske in 2022 and the floods on the Inhulets river after the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station in 2023. Zavodianyi plans to transfer the materials from the Second World War to the local museum in Kalynivske, from which the relevant exhibits were stolen during the Russian occupation of the village in 2022.
