Scope and Content

The town municipality agenda, summarized in a special the fonds named "Košice City with a Municipal Administration" covers the period 1939-1944 and reflects the life of Košice during the war years. By the Ordinance of the Hungarian Government no. 9330/1938 M.E. and the introduction of civilian administration in Košice on 20 December 1938 Kosice was incorporated into the Hungarian public administration as a "municipal town" - a free royal city. The fond contains a total of 125 inventory units, all of which is in Hungarian. Anti-Jewish measures agenda is present in the entire fonds and it documents the hardness of the measures and the intervention of the public authorities in the lives of the citizens of this race and nationality. The fonds contains materials related to various anti-Jewish regulations (e.g. a ban on access to public bathing for Jewish people, measures against Jewish markets and merchants, and many others). There are dozens of files on Jewish associations (e.g., Pro Palestina, Makabi, Mne Emuni etc.) and information about their abolition. Moreover, the fonds contains documents about a Jewish labor camp as well as the so-called Brick factory camp where the Jews were concentrated before their deportation to concentration camps. This includes documents on the question of numbers of people imprisoned in the labor camp. The fonds also contains documents pertaining to the transfer of Jewish property to other owners, the handling of real estate property and also materials about the movable property of the Jews. There are also lists of Aryanised businesses in the fonds or various inventories of Jewish enterprises. The fonds also contains important documents administrative bodies such as all minutes of the meetings of the "municipal committee" that have been preserved and documents reflecting activities of the autonomous and administrative corps bodies. These contain the information on the political, economic, national, cultural and social life of the city of Košice.
