Biographical History
The Classified Archive of the State Foreigner Commission is a joint archive for classified records from all the different divisions within the commission. Among other records, it includes registries and different forms of individual files of foreigners, of whom many were Holocaust refugees and survivors.
Scope and Content
The archive contains classified records with information about foreigners who entered Sweden from 1917, and resided in the country from 1920. The archive includes records of foreigners from the period of Nazi Germany's persecution and the Holocaust, as well as about survivors from the Holocaust who arrived in Sweden towards the end of the war and after the war.
The archive includes protocols, minutes, correspondence, registries and lists, correspondence and individual files on foreigners, including Holocaust refugees and survivors, and perpetrators.
Conditions Governing Access
The National Archive considers confidentiality issues before giving access to documents from the archive. Some documents in the archive may still be classified for up to 70 years to protect the personal integrity of individuals.
