Extent and Medium
3097 linear meters of mostly textual records.
Archival History
The Administration Office (1944-1952) and its successor, the 3rd Bureau (1953-1969), have been cataloged as a single archive named the Administration Office (Kanslibyrån). The archive includes, among other things, the main index and foreigners' personal files.
Scope and Content
The archive includes files and documents concerning refugees and survivors, such as name lists, personal files (central dossiers, control dossiers, and entry dossiers), entry cards, and police interrogation records.
For each individual, one or more dossiers were compiled containing documents regarding entry permits (visa dossiers, prior to 1944, managed by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs) and residence and work permits (central dossiers), including applications, police reports, submitted foreign identity papers (if the individual received a Swedish alien passport).
Finding Aids
The archive has been indexed by the Swedish National Archives. The index can be found in a binder at the archive, and in the archive’s database NAD (Nationell Arkivdatabas): https://sok.riksarkivet.se/arkiv/wqENeBUQrH6d0002H087k3
The National Archives has also published two archival guidebooks that provide some information about documents providing details about immigration and Jewish history, respectively, in the archive:
Hallberg, Lars. Källor till invandringens historia i statliga myndigheters arkiv 1840–1990. Stockholm: Riksarkivet, 2001.
Carlsson, Carl Henrik. Källor till judarnas historia i Sverige: arkivguide. Täby: Riksarkivet, 2022.
