1981 ontving het NIOD, via het consulaat in Vancouver, ongeveer 6000 negatieven van opnamen vervaardigd door het voormalige Duitse fotopersbureau Stapf Bilderdienst, dat in Amsterdam gevestigd was. Een Canadese militair wist het materiaal tijdens de roerige bevrijdingsdagen mee te nemen. De toegang tot het Joodse stadsdeel wordt afgesloten door Nederlandse politieagenten en de Ordnungspolizei. De Magere Brug wordt opgehaald.
