"The collections of the heads of the counties contain important documents concerning the Holocaust in the Lithuanian provinces" (Galina Žirikova, Lietuvos centrinio valstybės archyvo fondai: holokausto Lietuvoje tyrimo šaltinis (The Collections of the State Archive of Lithuania: a Source of Research on the Holocaust in Lithuania), Vilnius: Valstybinis Vilniaus Gaono Žydų Muziejus, p. 12). The fonds of the chief of the Alytus district contains the documents of the expropriation of the property of Jews. There are also lists of the former Jewish owners of the property; lists of single items, houses, etc.; lists of the Jewish owners of the workshops, windmills; lists of the former Jewish enterprises, etc. Reports from the precinct police chiefs about incidents in their districts; reports and orders of Gebietscommissar. Documents about Jewish property; lists of personnel of custody; list of unemployed people; list of staff of fire brigade; information about moods of local residents in the district. Correspondence with commissar of Vilnius area, with the chiefs of local rural districts; lists of war refugees and applications from refugees from Poland seeking permission to leave country; list of German-speaking residents (including lists of Jews). Copies of the circulars and orders of local authorities, documentation regarding confiscation of property. Lists of farms and owners of repatriated Germans, Poles, and Jews. Correspondence with the chiefs of rural districts, with mayor of Alytus regarding transfers of remaining farms to local residents. Various kinds of instructions, etc.
