Scope and Content
The file consists of several parts: 1.) Internal note concerning Schmitt from SD-Hauptamt (Main Security Office),department II/222 to department II/2, dated November 27,1936. Investigations regarding the whereabouts of letters need to be made. Schmitt claims having received letters from Jews and having forwarded them to the Gestapo (Geheimes Staatspolizeiamt – Secret State Police Agency). According to information from both the Gestapo and the Stapostelle Berlin (Staatspolizeistelle Berlin - Berlin State Police Office), their department of observation of Jews does not know of such a writing. The signatures underneath the note are hardly readable, neither is the following handwritten note, the second page of the file. 2.) Comment from SD-Hauptamt (Main Security Office), department II/222 about a phone call by Lotar Kühne, dated November 28,1936: Staatsanwaltschaftsrat (councilor of the department of public prosecution) Adams, told him by phone that Schmitt is planning to resign from all his offices, because especially after the article by Knöpfel he does not see himself able to fulfill his duties any more. 3.) Empty index page for newspapers and a barely readable handwritten note. 4.) Notification from SD-Hauptamt (Main Security Office),department II/2 titled "An Stbf. mit der Bitte um Vorlage bei C." (To Storm Unit Leader requesting to present it to C."), baring the stamp of the National Leader SS. Head of Main Security Office and another stamp saying "Urgent". The subject of the notification is [Hans] Frank's appointment as Reichsjustizminister (National Minister of Justice). [Wilhelm] Stuckart will talk to [Martin] Bormann and [Heinrich] Himmler should also talk to him and accordingly to [Adolf] Hitler's deputy to avoid by all means that [Hans] Frank will bring along Schmitt as State Secretary. 5.) Short note about Schmitt's part in defeating the publication of a dissertation by Mäding, that criticized himself.
