Scope and Content
The Ludwig Dische papers are a collection of letters, drafts, copies, newspaper clips and biographical material about famous Jews from Czernowitz, Bukovina, in today's Ukraine. They also contain personal letters and material of Ludwig Dische who was from Czernowitz and later lived many years in Romania before he emigrated to Vienna. The file includes handwritten notes about famous Jews from Czernowitz. The file contains biographical information about the opera singer Josef Schmidt. Newspaper articles are included e.g. from “Die Presse”, November 20, 1972 on the occasion of Joseph Schmidt’s 30th anniversary of his death; a newspaper article in “Die Gemeinde” April 3rd, 1974 on the occasion of Joseph Schmidt’s 70th birthday; a newspaper article in “Die Stimme” about Joseph Schmidt, January 1968 and finally a newspaper article in “Die Gemeinde” July 2, 1968 about Ernst Neubach who wrote texts for songs and was a successful film producer.
