Scope and Content

The file contains the verdict of Jan Morawski (born on 23 October 1907 in Kamienice). In September 1939 an elderly man came to a local Polish woman's house asking for water. After receiving the water the man revealed himself as a German. The woman advised the man to hide himself behind the barn. However, in that moment the defendant Morawski and a Polish soldier appeared stopping the man. The concerned woman asked Morawski to deliver the German man to the police which the defendant agreed to do. Morawski was accused of murdering the man but as he was never found there was a lack of evidence. Still, the defendant was found guilty of disturbing the peace and therefore sentenced to death in 1943.
