Extent and Medium
2 electronic resources (23, 2 pages)
Scope and Content
The file is a compilation of quotes from Nazi publications and their views and policies towards religion and the church. It mentions the dissolution and ban of all catholic associations in the area of Cologne in 1938, and the closure of all confessional schools in Austria in 1939. In Thuringia, in January 1938 all Catholic teachers who refused to renounce their membership in the Catholic Teacher's Association are to be removed from their position. Another excerpt deals with the strategies of the Hitler Youth in fighting Catholic Youth organizations. In 1940 books for religious education are put under new guidelines. In the book "Um den Deutschen in der Zukunft" from 1937, 1863 members were registered in the National Socialist Teachers League of Duisburg; more than 100 teachers refused to join. Finally, there are excerpts from church history, interpretations of bible texts, and reprints of school prayers from Thuringia.
