Stalingrad (Dossier)
Extent and Medium
2 electronic resources (21, 3 pages)
Scope and Content
The file is a compilation of quotes from various German sources (periodicals, speeches) about the situation of the German army in Stalingrad. The reports contain propaganda, and do not reflect the real situation. They highlight the heroic deeds of the German soldier. It reports the high casualty rate of the Russian soldiers, while German losses are not addressed. The initial optimistic reports slowly give way to a more realistic picture of the strong and stubborn defense by the Soviets, the last report speaks of sacrifice and a miracle. Each quote states the headline, newspaper, volume and date of the publication.
