German fuel difficulties
Extent and Medium
2 online resources (1, 11 pages)
Scope and Content
The files contain information on the fuel situation in Nazi Germany. Hitler considered it essential to increase the production of fuel and make Germany independent from other countries. According to the documents, Hitler promised in 1936 that Germany would be totally independent from foreign fuel by the following eighteen months. By 1939, his promise was still not fulfilled. A report in the files states that Germany may be able to produce 3 to 3.5 million tons of fuel but will still need to cover 4.5 to 5 million tons of fuel with imports.
