  • Benjamin Buttenwieser was an American, Jewish origin, banker, philanthropist and civic leader in New York. In 1949-1951 he was the US assistant high comissioner for Germany, in which role he expressed his views on the successful process of "destroying Nazism" in Post-war Germany and of the justifiability of returning of Nazis to important positions in the political, economic and educational life of Germany, views that were strongly criticised by the American press -- (Wikipedia and dossier)
