Scope and Content

The file contains typewritten extracts of philosophical and autobiographical works written by the German 19th century poet Ernst M. Arndt. The extracts are focusing on Arndt’s position regarding German patriotism and, especially, his admiration for England’s political culture as a leading example for Germany in its opposition to France and the French occupation under Napoleon in the early 19th century. Furthermore, the file contains extracts of works on Arndt’s life, work, and especially on his relations with England published in Germany between 1929 and 1938.
