Scope and Content

The file contains various documents from a court trial regarding compensation claims following the persecution of Jews in Romania by Nazi Germany. The other parties involved in the trial are unknown. The documents include a 42 pages long typewritten presentation to the court in the matter of a case in which the legal representative outlines the Nazi politics of persecution in Romania between 1941 and 1944, arguing that the government of Nazi Germany, as well as state and party representatives were responsible for the implementation of Anti-Jewish measures in Romania. Furthermore, the documents include the attachments to the presentation, among them twelve testimonies on the persecution of Jews in Romania, circulars translated from Romanian on the maximum prices fixed for food, a translated report by the Romanian police, and a verbatim account from the memory of an eye witness, Nathan Segall, on the living conditions in the Mihailovca labor camp. Finally, the file contains historical documentation on the persecution of Jews in Romania based on research and documentation carried out by the Institute for Contemporary History in Munich (Institut für Zeitgeschichte), and extracts from the diary of Romanian artist Arnold Daghani on executions in the Mihailovca labor camp.
