Scope and Content
The file is the second part of a collection of correspondence between the Gestapo Würzburg and various government bodies. Its topics include the restrictions on social Jewish gatherings and the prevention of public unrest after the killing of Wilhelm Gustloff. It includes a letter by Rudolf Hess about the correct labeling of signs (Jews not welcome) in wake of foreign outcry. A search warrant by the Gestapo is included for a couple on a motorbike taking pictures of signs restricting access to Jews. Most correspondence deals with economic issues. For example, an interpretation of the Nuremberg laws by the Ministry of Justice permitting the purchase of land to Jews as well as the expulsion of lawyers from the law association if members represent Jewish clients in court. The Ministry of labor orders the exclusion of Jews from the exemption of license fees. Freiherr v. Eberstein of the Ministry of interior (Staatsministerium des Inneren) insists on the avoidance of individual actions against Jews or Jewish businesses. Concern is raised by the Gestapo about the trade of swastika flags and party symbols by Jews. There is a lengthy letter to the Stürmer magazine concerning business dealings of Jewish businesses. Finally, the file consists of correspondence by the Reichsministerium des Inneren/Reichs- und Preussischer Wirtschaftsminister including letters by Rudolf Brinkmann, Hermann Göring and Werner Best concerning exclusion of Jewish businesses from government contracts incl. exemptions and guidelines to determine when a business is considered “Jewish”. A letter from the Jewish community (Kultusgemeinde Würzburg) requests the admittance of „people with mixed heritage” to foreign language classes
