Scope and Content
The file is the second part of a series of files containing documents on the situation of Jews in Bulgaria during its time as an Ally of Nazi Germany. This file contains diplomatic correspondence between the German Foreign Ministry, the Reich Main Security Office (“Reichsicherheitshauptamt”, RSHA) and the German representatives in in Sofia regarding the treatment of Jews in Bulgaria. Written between July 1942 and November 1943, the documents include letters and telegrams dealing mostly with the rescue transports of Jewish children through Bulgaria to Palestine, Jewish emigration to Palestine from Bulgaria, and the appointment of SS captain Theodor Dannecker as advisor to the Reich Main Security Office (“Reichsicherheitshauptamt”, RSHA) on the treatment of Jews in Bulgaria. Some documents are of poor quality and barely readable.
