Scope and Content

The file contains a copy of the booklet “A Southerner looks at Negro Discrimination” published in 1946 in the United States. The small book is a compilation of writings by the American novelist George W. Cable on behalf of social equality for the African-American population in the United States. The 14 texts on the historical background, the character, and the results of the discrimination of African-American people, as well as on solutions to solve social inequality were edited by Isabel Cable Manes. The introduction by Professor Alva W. Taylor places Cable’s writings within a broader struggle for social equity.
