Scope and Content

Being the continuation of the file “Boycott of German Economy I”, the present file contains diplomatic correspondence between the German Foreign Ministry, represented by Vicco von Bülow-Schwante, and various German diplomatic missions on international boycott activities directed against Nazi Germany. The file has been divided into several parts. The first part contains reports and articles on the first World Jewish Congress held in Geneva in August 1936, and on its reception in foreign countries. The second file contains documents and reports on Jewish initiatives speaking out against the international boycott initiatives directed against Nazi Germany, for example an interview with Max Naumann, the founder of the League of National German Jews (“Verband nationaldeutscher Juden”). The third part contains documents on plans to end the boycott movement initiated by a certain Harry Kamber (K. Philipps Morgan) for the sake of the American-German business relations. The fourth part mainly contains reports and programs of the boycott movement. The fifth part contains a report of the German Ministry of Economics on the negative effects of the Anti-Jewish policies on the German economy as well as a report on the boycott’s effects on Germany in general. Furthermore, the fifth part contains documents on the visit to Germany of Paul Hutchinson, the head of the “Chicago Committee for the Defense of Human Rights against Naziism” and the author of a book entitled “Nazi-ism – A vital Challenge to Christians”. The last part (part 6) mainly deals with boycott activities in foreign countries, such as Great Britain, the United States (“American Jewish Committee”), Belgium. Furthermore, it contains documents on the World Jewish Conference in Geneva in 1934 as well as a letter by Swedish Businessman Axel Christiansen against the German Anti-Jewish politics.
