Scope and Content

The files contain several information booklets and leaflets on labour matters published by the 'Deutsche Arbeitsfront, DAF' (German Labour Front) in 1938. It was designed officially as the National Socialist trade union organization which replaced the various independent trade unions of the Weimar Republic and existed to act as a medium through which workers and owners could mutually represent their interests. Offically in charge of all labour related and social regulations in the Third Reich, it served in fact as spy-, political- and educationorganization at the working place. Several informations about social security and leisure programmes which were started, canteens, breaks, and regular working times which were established can be seen. For example regulations on social and health insurance, youth protection and apprenticeship, salary and vacancy regulations are presented in the files. The German workers were generally satisfied by what the DAF gave them in repayment for their absolute loyalty. Furthermore several documents are contained in the files concerning 'Kraft durch Freude, Kdf' (Strength through Joy). It was a large state-operated leisure organization in Nazi Germany, working as a part of the German Labour Front. Set up as a tool to promote the advantages of National Socialism to the people, it soon became the world's largest tourism operator. Informations for leisure activities for the German workers and trips for the whole company are presented.
