Scope and Content
The file contains two biographies of theologians in the 20th century. One is about Theodor Heckel, an protestant Bischop. He was born in 1894 and studied theology from 1913 till 1920. In 1922 he started to work as a 'Reichsbishop'. When the ecclesiastical dapartment for foreign affairs of the protestant churches was established in 1934 he became the head of it and worked there till 1945. The second theologian which is presented is Eugen Karl Albrecht Gerstenmaier, he was born in 1906. He studied German philology and evangelical theology till 1936. As he belonged to the resistance movement 'Kreisauer Kreises' he was arrested a couple of times. In 1945 he got freed by the american troops and started his political career in the federal republic of Germany.
