Scope and Content

The file contains a summary about Robert S. Wistrich's book 'Anti-Semitism the longest hatred' published in 1992. In his book he outlines the history of the Protocols in America with anti-Semitic publications and statements made in America and the world, especially by Henry Ford, from the 20th century on wards. He uses, for example, 'The Anti-Ford boycott' by Edwin Black (1986) and Robert Singermann's publication 'The American career of the Protocols of the elders of Zion', published in 1981, in which they explain, that shortly after the Great War began in Europe, Ford claimed he had discovered 'proof' that Jews were behind the world's troubles. Further did Hitler tell an American reporter 'I regard Heinrich Ford as my inspiration'. Ford also employed agents to seek out more anti-Jewish 'evidence', which he published in his weekly newspaper. One such agent acquired a transcript entitled The Protocols of the Wise man of Zion. Henry Ford understood them as a revelation of the most sinister plot of modern times and accused Jews of perpetrating World War 1 and using American Presidents Taft and Wilson as their puppets. The defamation continued weekly as Ford's paper denounced the Jewish conspiracy for corruption on Wall street and many other things. Jewish reaction was swift. Jewish boycott movement erupted, libel suits were launched against Ford. Also Barnest Litvinoff wrote about the Quest of the Elders of Zion and about Henry Ford's antisemitic speeches. In 1920 a so called official translation, entitled 'The Jewish Peril', made a highly publicized appearance in England and received an imposing review in The Times of London, so he argues. In 1921 when Henry Ford was confronted with the exposure of the forgery of the Protocols by Philipp Graves, he shrugged it off and said: if you will carefully read our articles, you will find we have at no time guaranteed their authenticity.
