Scope and Content
The dispatches were written for the New York Times about the Partisan movement in Yugoslavia and the strong influence of communism on its leadership. It highlights partisan battles, torture and death but also community, heroism and sacrifice in difficult territory. It reports on the Second Meeting of the Anti-Fascist Council of Nation Liberation of Yugoslavia (AVNOJ) held as Jajce in November 1943 and Tito’s aides visiting allies in Egypt. The status of women, education of peasants, and a future outlook for the country are topics addressed.
