Scope and Content

In this fonds we firstly note several Belgium-related wartime reports, more specifically the files C3/27, C3/28 and C3/45. They contain anti-Jewish legal texts, various brochures, correspondence, documents, reports on the situation of the Jews in Belgium, during the years 1940-1946. Several other files concern post-war Belgium – see C3/341 (including reports, correspondence, newsletters, … on the Conseil des Associations Juives en Belgique and COREF; 1945-1950), C3/342 (containing newsletters of the CAJB; 1946) and C3/370 (i.a. concerning WJC children’s homes in Belgium; 1946-1947). File C3/1654 contains a book-keeping book of WJC Geneva regarding the expenses of the Comité des Juifs de Belgique en Suisse (1945). The fonds also includes large series of correspondence. We firstly point out the series “Correspondence Belgium [WJC Belgium]” – see files C3/1046 to C3/1054. They contain correspondence on various subjects for the years 1944-1964 between the Geneva WJC Office and Jewish associations in Belgium, among them the Comité de Défense des Juifs, Comité Consultatif, Conseil des Associations Juives en Belgique and the Congrès juif mondial – Belgique. Files C3/1055 to C3/1058 hold correspondence between WJC Geneva and various individuals and organisations in Belgium (1945-1966). In files C3/80 and C3/81 (1940-1944) we find correspondence of WJC Geneva/RELICO with individuals and various organisations in Belgium concerning the search for missing persons, restitution of the belongings of internees, … Other correspondence files are also relevant for this guide – see files C3/242 (with consulates and legations, i.a. of Belgium; 1941-1974), C3/269 (with the Comité des Juifs de Belgique en Suisse; 1945), C3/318 (with the WJC offices in i.a. Belgium regarding search activities; 1945-1946), C3/395 (with ICRC Belgium; 1944), C3/499 (i.a. on WJC policies in Belgium; 1946), C3/550 (i.a. on reorganisation of the Brussels WJC offices; 1950), C3/562 (i.a. concerning unclaimed properties in Belgium; 1951) and C3/835 (i.a. regarding heirless property in Belgium; 1950). Lastly, Belgium is also mentioned in the following correspondence files: C3/830 (1949), C3/839 (1954), C3/960 (1949) and C3/972 (1955).
