Comments upon the freezing conditions in Vienna, and how family and friends overseas have helped in sending gifts to them. Mentions Dolphi, Pauli and his Grandma are staying in [Bad] Ischl, Austria, for the winter, and his sister-in-law Minna [sister of Martha Bernays] is in Bad Reichenhall, Germany. He also notes the travel of Pauli's daughter, Rose Beatrice, to New York to stay with Eli; she suffered a "nervous collapse" upon arrival and is recovering.

Informs that Oliver may be obtaining a commission to the Dutch Colonial Service.
