Biographical History

Cyril Wernick (1917-45) was a lance corporal in the Royal Norfolk Regiment. He was taken prisoner at the fall of Singapore and was held at Changi. Shortly after his release, he died of malnutrition and was buried in Madras.

Prayers for evening service, in Hebrew, written on official receipt forms from Singapore criminal prison; invitation to the dedication service of Synagogue Jacob, Changi Gaol, 26 Aug 1944; photographs of Cyril Wernick, his wife and Wernick's father; letter to Wernick's mother on his death; photographs of temporary and permanent tombstones of Wernick in Kasimode Jewish Cemetery, Madras. Two articles from the about Jewish prisoners of war in Japanese camps, 1945 and 1948.
