Biographical History

The author wrote a book on the subject Som om de slet ikke eksisterede, Marianne Bisballe, 1991.
Hugo Rothenberg was a Danish Jew who was born in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, in 1882 and learnt his trade in Frankfurt a. M. in the leather and skin industry. In 1907 he moved to Denmark and became director in the Danish shoe and leather company, Ballin and sons. Later through his acquaintanceship with Göring and other connections he was able to save German and later Danish Jews. He was used by the JOINT as a go-between. He met Gerhart Riegner in Switzerland who confirmed that some of his reports were based on Rothenberg's information.
