Scope and Content

This collection comprises 3 separate deposits, of which the provenance of only 2 can be identified. 809/1 was deposited by R D Gray in November 1988 along with a number of books and pamphlets, which have been catalogued separately as part of the Wiener Library book and pamphlet collections. The material in this deposit relates mainly to the interrogation of German prisoners of war. It appears that the depositor (a retired academic at the time of deposit) was a member of an interrogation team during the war: Some original pencil notes on the interrogation of prisoners of war in the summer of 1944 near Reigate (809/1/3) are annotated with a claim by the depositor that they were made by him.

809/2 consists of photocopies of 4 reports re Nazi atrocities against Russians, Jews and Gypsies, by MI 19 (Royal Patriotic School), 1943-1944, the originals of which are at the Public Record Office. MI 19, the Royal Patriotic school, was charged with the responsibility of interrogating civilians arriving in the UK from abroad. The material was deposited by Tyas in September 1988.

809/3 consists of two lists of names: 1) accused in the 'Riga Ghetto case'; 2) unidentified list of 'accused and witnesses received from Sweden and Germany'. The provenance of this deposit is unknown.
