Biographical History
The papers in this collection were gathered during the course of research for a Thames Television documentary on Kurt Waldheim's role during the Second World War. The latter had become the subject of some interest since early 1986 when Waldheim's candidacy for the office of Federal President of Austria was made known.

Information about the acquisition of the material in this collection is unknown save for 646/12 and the following 2 items all of which were accessioned in April 1988 (Accession number: 54882).

Scope and Content
The bulk of this collection consists of photocopies of documents with their translations which record Waldheim's activities not only in connection with the above events but also with other war crimes committed by the Nazis in the Balkans and Greece (the latter presumably was insufficient to implicate Waldheim). Many of the documents within the bundles have a translation attached and often a covering note explaining certain words or omissions.

The papers are arranged chronologically into bundles covering the periods March- December 1942; April- December 1943 and January-December 1944.
