Biographical History

Walter Menzl (1906-1994) was a German philosopher and adventurer. Having lived in South America he moved back to Germany in the late 1950s. He gained notoriety in 1959 when he defaced a Rubens painting in Munich.

Scope and Content

Correspondence regarding enquiries by Menzel for support for his philosophical endeavours. Contained are two manifestos authored by Menzel as well as an English language newspaper clipping on the destruction of the Rubens painting in Munich.
