Biographical History

An offspring of a noble family with Jewish-German-Baltic roots, Bodo Freiherr von Maydell had served as soldier in the German Army during the Second World War. Later he became a Quaker.

Scope and Content

Correspondence regarding a publication by Maydell and a genealogical issue related to it. Furthermore, Maydell provided The Wiener Library with an excerpt from his war diary, describing his experiences when he was stationed near Auschwitz. The excerpt would be merged into Library’s eyewitness testimony project later.
