Biographical History
Eva Manes was the daughter of Jewish-German World War One veteran, fur trader and Holocaust victim Philipp Manes. She emigrated to England once the Nazis took a hold on power.
Scope and Content
Correspondence mainly on access to and storage of personal papers of Philipp Manes at The Wiener Library (1955-1959). Contained are letters to and with Rudolphe Manes, Eva’s brother, who provides information on his experience in North Africa during the Second World War as well as his postwar life in Algeria.
Further included is correspondence with H. G. Adler, Theodor W. Adorno, Max Horkheimer, and the publishing house Europäische Verlagsanstalt on options of publishing the diary of Philipp Manes from Theresienstadt (1960-1963).
Contained are a railway schedule for London-Oxford, three postcards, an opera program, and some excerpts from Philipp Manes’ diary.
