Biographical History

Dr. Marie-Elisabeth Lüders (1878-1966) was a liberal German politician and MP. The campaigner for women’s rights she was the first German woman to earn a doctorate in political science. Alfred Wiener’s sister in law from his first marriage had been one of Lüders’ assistants in the period of the Weimar Republic.

Scope and Content

The correspondence includes birthday wishes, the scheduling of a meeting of Lüders and Alfred Wiener in London (1953), and an enquiry by Lüder’s on information about the deaths of Wiener’s first wife and sister in law.
