Biographical History
Betty Lewin was a British Holocaust survivor of German descent. When the Nazis came to power she left Germany and settled in the Netherlands where she worked as a domestic for Alfred Wiener and his family for several years. After the war she moved to Nottingham and became a nurse.
Scope and Content
The correspondence centres on family related issues, the writing of an eyewitness account for The Wiener Library’s eyewitness testimony project, and Lewin’s individual restitution claims in Germany. Related with the latter is a contained correspondence between Alfred Wiener and a legal advisor from the United Restitution Office in London.
