Biographical History
Leo Isaac Lessmann (1891-1970) was a Jewish-German publisher and World War I veteran. In 1937 he had compiled an extensive diary about his volunteer four-year service during this war. Two years later he emigrated to the Netherlands and finally to Palestine. Lessmann and Alfred Wiener had briefly met in the interwar era.
Scope and Content
Correspondence regarding a restitution related information request by Lessmann on the whereabouts of his large collection of Judaica and religious art which had been expropriated after the German occupation of the Netherlands. Contained is a copy of a letter to a Dutch Commissariaat voor Oorlogsschade.
