Biographical History

The Leo Baeck Institute is an international research institute devoted to history and culture of German speaking Jewry. Established in 1955 and named after its first international president, liberal German rabbi Leo Baeck, the institute consists of three independent branches in New York, Jerusalem, and London. Scope and Content

Correspondence regarding the establishment and subsequent development of the London branch of the Leo Baeck Institute (LBI). Related subjects are among others: the recruitment of board members, the finding and alterations of suitable premises, the establishment of a Society of Friends, the appointment of Arnold Paucker as the institute’s director, and the LBI’s publication projects, especially its Year Book.

Contained are circulars and minutes of the LBI and the Council of Jews from Germany, Wiener Library memos, certain lists, and an expose by Alfred Wiener on the association of The Wiener Library and LBI London (1956).
