Biographical History
A Landgericht (LG) is a district court for ordinary jurisdiction in the federal states of Germany. As such, it serves as mid-level court for private and criminal law. The hearing of restitution cases as well as criminal proceedings of Nazi perpetrators are assigned to its remit. The German Treblinka as well as Majdanek Trials were held here.
Scope and Content
Following the visit of a judge from the LG Düsseldorf at The Wiener Library the correspondence focuses on the provision of information material for trials held at this court. This concerns an enquiry on Jews from Leipzig, and on the deportation of Jews from Kielce to Treblinka - the latter in preparation of the Second Treblinka Trial. A restitution related enquiry on a local business in Debrecen is also contained.
