Biographical History
Resző Kasztner (Rudolf Kastner; 1906-1957) was a Hungarian lawyer, journalist and Zionist activist. In 1943 he became a leading figure in the Aid and Rescue Committee and negotiated with Nazi authorities in order to safe Jews from deportation. After the war he emigrated to Israel where he was accused and tried for collaborating with the SS, causing a major political scandal. Kasztner was assassinated in 1957.
