Biographical History
Joseph Melzer was a Jewish-German Bookseller and publisher who had emigrated to Palestine in 1932. In 1958 he returned to West Germany and founded the Joseph Melzer publishing house in Cologne.
Scope and Content
Correspondence regarding a restitution related enquiry for a copy of a Jewish magazine (Freie Jüdische Monatsschau) published in 1931; support with bibliographic information for a catalogue on Postwar publications on German Jewry, planned as the first publication by the newly founded Melzer publishing house in Cologne; and the sending of books by Melzer. Contained is a two letter correspondence with the Entschädigungsamt (department for restitution claims) in West Berlin (1958).
