Biographical History
Saul E. Joftes was a US-American functionary of Jewish descent. He held several high positions at B’nai B’rith during the 1950s and 60s. Later he was involved in a legal case with the organisation.
Scope and Content
Documenting the close association between the Library and Joftes the correspondence centres on numerous information requests by the latter. This includes among others enquiries on past political affiliations of certain German and Austrian artists and politicians as well as on current activities of certain anti-Semitic individuals or groups. Additionally, Joftes’ subscription to the Library’s press survey and his advice on approaching other potential subscribers is discussed. Contained is a B’nai B’rith circular and two B’nai B’rith cards.
