Biographical History

The Hilfestelle für Rasseverfolgte bei der evangelischen Gesellschaft Stuttgart was established in September 1945 to cater to the needs of so called 'Christian Jews'- Jews who had converted to Christianity. Originally founded in Berlin it re-established itself in Stuttgart on the initiative of the local Jewish community.

Scope and Content

Correspondence on various subjects including requests for books and other material; the question of the Jewish roots of Thomas Theodor Heine; the influence of Judaism in the Soviet Union; Maimonides; translations of the Talmud; statistics on postwar Jewish population in West Germany, on those murdered by the Nazis/ persecuted Jews in Baden Württemberg, and on war graves in Europe; material on the ‘Jewish Question’. Contained are several postcards.
