Biographical History

Dr. Max Gruenewald (born Grünewald; 1899-1992) was a German born US-American rabbi. Before emigrating in 1938 he had held a leading position at the Reichsvertretung der Deutschen Juden. In 1955 he became co-founder and president of the Leo Baeck Institute New York. See Walk, J., Kurzbiographien zur Geschichte der Juden 1918-1945, Munich et. al., K. G. Saur, 1988, p. 128.
