Biographical History

Dr Robert Raphael Geis (1906-1972) was a liberal German rabbi. After being imprisoned in Buchenwald concentration camp during the November Pogrom 1938 he had emigrated to Palestine. From 1952-56 he served as state rabbi in Baden, West Germany.

Scope and Content

Documenting the close association between Geis and Alfred Wiener, the correspondence centres on various general topics, including among others: the exchange of published and unpublished material; minor issues related with a common board membership of a certain publication project (Dokumentenwerk); or the condition of rabbi Leo Back. Contained is a post card and a thank you card.
