27 letters
Biographical History
Otto Heinrich Frank (1889-1980) was a Dutch-Swiss Holocaust survivor of Jewish-German descent. He was the father of world famous diarist and Holocaust victim Anne Frank. Since both their daughters went to the same schools Frank and Alfred Wiener had been personally acquainted since their time in pre-war Amsterdam.
Scope and Content
Documenting the friendly relation between Frank and Alfred Wiener the correspondence centres on the increasing prevalence and success of the published diary of Anne Frank. This includes information on circulation figures in various countries, and the receipt of various editions by the Library. Other subjects are: an article on Anne Frank and her diary published in the Library’s Bulletin, the idea of establishing a memorial for Anne Frank in the Library, a meeting of Wiener and Frank in London, and an enquiry by Frank on a former SS-member named Günther Steffen.
The correspondence contains a letter by Frank to Helmut ‘Hello’ Silberberg, a Holocaust survivor and formerly close friend of Anne Frank (1947), and a memo on meeting Wiener’s with Frank (1959).
