Biographical History
Dr Arnold Zweig (1887-1968) was a Jewish-German writer. When the Nazis came to power the socialist emigrated to Israel. In 1948 he moved to East Berlin and became one of East Germany’s most regarded novelists. See Steinberg, W. v., Arnold Zweig, Frankfurt am Main, Hain, 1990.
Scope and Content
Comprising two letters by The Wiener Library, the correspondence concerns the person Fritz Kahn as well as a meeting between Zweig and Alfred Wiener. Furthermore, it contains an appeal for setting up a commission to investigate activities of former Nazi perpetrators in West German politics. Beside Zweig the appeal is signed by Anna Seghers and Helene Weigel-Brecht.
