Biographical History

Elisabeth Zwart-Spanjer (1915 - 2019) is a Dutch resistance fighter, journalist and political activist. She had met the later German chancellor, Willy Brandt, in the Netherlands during his exile.

The letters concern Zwart-Spanjer’s activities in compiling eyewitness accounts from the Netherlands for The Wiener Library’s eyewitness testimony project.
