Biographical History
The Zentrale Stelle der Landesjustizverwaltungen zur Aufklärung nationalsozialistischer Verbrechen is the main German agency to investigate Nazi crimes. Founded in 1958 in Ludwigsburg, it is a joint institution of the German states. Over the years it had compiled a vast collection of archival material on this topic, and was assigned as a branch to the Federal Archives in 2000.
Scope and Content
Documenting The Wiener Library’s support of pretrial investigations of Nazi crimes in West Germany the correspondence centres on requests by the Zentralstelle for published and unpublished source material on numerous individuals. This included among others members of the Sonderkommando Kulmhof. The correspondence contains a memo by a Wiener Library staff member on organisation and remit of the Zentralstelle and its cooperation with the Library.
